Overview
Type West is a small foundry releasing its first retail family. They needed an identity and a specimen that would let the typeface sell itself to a demanding audience of designers.
The challenge
Designers judge foundries on craft alone. The specimen had to demonstrate range and detail without decoration getting in the way of the letterforms.
The approach
I designed a stripped-back identity and a specimen built entirely from the family itself, using scale, spacing, and pace to reveal the type at its best across weights and sizes.
